“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart.
Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
– Carl Jung
Something is not working.
You cannot quite put your finger on what is wrong, but you notice you are experiencing a general feeling of discontentment.
You notice yourself sighing more and retreating into some negative thought patterns that have taken hold of you.
On paper, you feel like your life seems pretty good, but you realize that this is not the life you want for yourself when you zoom in and read the fine print.
You feel tired of being told to “snap out of it” or that “you are so blessed!” Your gut is telling you something is not quite right – and your gut is right.
Inside, your emotions are out of control.
You notice that suddenly you are not as expressive as you once were because you fail to express how you feel emotionally.
You try to tell a parent, sibling, or friend what you are going through but find it hard to get the words out. This apprehension is because you keep your feelings inside, and you experience those feelings festering in your mind and heart.
You may feel tension headaches, jaw pain, or body aches because you cannot release that pent-up emotion. On other days, you feel you might cry at the drop of a hat, or you end up yelling at your kid for the smallest of things.
You tell yourself that you need to find some healthy outlet for these feelings, but nothing works. The emotions keep coming hard and fast, and you don’t know how to control them.
“Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.”
– Carl Jung
Let’s make sense of what you are feeling.
Therapy is a place where you will sit down with your thoughts and emotions and hear yourself. Once you allow yourself to listen to what you are experiencing, your emotions will not seem so scary and confusing anymore.
In therapy, you will learn to see and hear yourself in the most meaningful ways so that your emotions no longer control you.
Talk therapy is one of the most potent ways to reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, being heard by an experienced clinician whose sole purpose is to be emotionally present. Opening up how you feel on the inside is the most freeing and liberating experience of your life.
You will feel better!
You are tired of feeling this way and know that it is time to try something new. And I am proud of you for taking this first step to stop the emotional rollercoaster you are experiencing.
