Beginning the journey of therapy is one that requires great courage and self-compassion. It takes a lot to look within yourself and realize that your journey requires more than you alone. Being able to see how therapy can be a helpful tool in your life is a big step and I’m glad you want to do the work.
I didn’t fully understand the value of therapy until I looked back on my darkest times and realized how helpful it would’ve been for me to have the support of a therapist. I was too worried about being perceived as weak or misunderstood. What I came to realize was that I needed more than what I or the people around me could offer, so I stumbled and, sometimes, suffered my way through my struggles until I got to a better place. While I made it through those dark times, I didn’t realize there were so many things untouched under the surface. It wasn’t until I decided to get into the counseling profession and go to therapy that I began to dig below the surface to address the things in my life that work.
As I acknowledge my own journey, I hope that you find connection and hope to continue your journey of growth through counseling. My goal as a counselor is to assist you in your continued path of understanding, loving, and showing up for yourself in the ways in which you ultimately know are best for you.
I have a B.A. in Psychology from Rutgers University and a M.A. in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. I provide individual therapy to teenagers and adults (primarily young adults to middle age) and follow a person-centered counseling approach that utilizes different counseling techniques to support the needs of the client. Whether you’re dealing with life changes, anxiety, depression, familial/relationship challenges, social issues, or simply need a safe space to sort through your thoughts and feelings, my job is to help you see and understand yourself more clearly. Although therapy can be hard work, it can be some of the most gratifying and fulfilling work you will get to do in your life because its yours to keep.
